Well known for creating narrative-infused sonic universes and taking inspiration from science fiction and modern philosophy, Joshua Stefane aka Endurance has given us something rather unusual in Sines, describing it as an album that was born more out of technical experimentation than thematic inspiration. Using his ER-301 sound computer to build an array of eight sine waves – the simplest elements of sound – and control their volume, phase, and feedback, Endurance has created a richly layered but fundamentally simple sound on Sines, one reminiscent of the minimal music of artists like Phil Niblock. Moments of high intensity tie in with segments of pure harmonic stasis, evoking qualities of timelessness, where the listener is lifted into a higher atmosphere towards destinations unknown. Let your mind control your body!
